SETTING THE SCENE:
Forward Madison FC kicks off in South Carolina on Saturday, March 23rd against Greenville Triumph SC. Triumph recorded their first win on the season against newcomers, Spokane Velocity, with a final score of 3-1. The ‘Mingos will kick off at 6pm CT.
HISTORY VS. TRIUMPH
FMFC and Triumph have faced each other six times since 2022, and the series is all tied up at 2-2-2. Last season, Forward Madison scored five total goals in the three matchups against Greenville, two coming off the foot of striker, Christian Chaney.
However, Forward Madison has yet to win on the road against Triumph and will look to break the streak this weekend.
‘MINGOS FIRST ROUND OF OPEN CUP RECAP
On Tuesday, Forward Madison beat Duluth FC at home in the first round of the US Open Cup, 2-0. Despite a chilly second half, the ‘Mingos looked solid, even with a new rotation of players on the field.
Christian Chaney buried both goals for the home squad, his first of the 2024 season. Ferrety Sousa and newcomer Jake Fuderer tallied their first assists of the year. Jake Crull wore the captain’s band for the first time in a pink and blue jersey and goalkeeper Martin Sanchez recorded his first shutout for the squad.
KEYS TO THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE BURISH GROUP AT UBS
After an electric Open Cup performance, and a history of goal-scoring against Triumph, look for Christian Chaney to lead the attack for Forward, along with Devin Boyce who played a strong game against Tormenta last week and scored the first goal of the season.
Last week, Forward Madison conceded a late goal against Tormenta, giving them one out of three possible points. It will be crucial to see how they bounce back from this lapse in play. With a mid-week game played legs are bound to be tired, but Forward will need to figure out how to close games, especially early in the season.
NEXT MATCH:
