Forward Madison FC has signed 29-year-old defender Carl Schneider. Schneider was born in Madison and has spent the last season playing for the Michigan Stars.
“We’re excited to welcome Carl back to FMFC after a year away in Michigan,” Director of Soccer Operations and Development Keith Tiemeyer said. “Carl is a talented, local product who has had success at all levels. He adds strength and depth to the back line.”
He started his youth career with the Madison 56ers and also played for Mequon United from 2006 to 2007. In high school he played for the La Follette Lancers where the Wisconsin State Journal named him Player of the Year and second team all-state as a senior, after he led the team to their first Big Eight Conference title.
Schneider joined the Wisconsin Badgers in 2012 and managed to score 2 goals in 61 appearances. From 2011 to 2014 he also played for the Madison 56ers senior team in the NPSL also appearing for them in the 2013 U.S. Open Cup. In 2015 he joined Des Moines Menace in the PDL making 6 appearances, while also playing for the team in the second round of the 2015 U.S. Open Cup.
In 2016 Schneider moved to Sweden where he first trained with Bridges FC, but signed with IFK Åmål, after being scouted by them. He helped the team gain promotion to Division 3. Schneider made 40 league appearances for the club, scored 2 goals and appeared in the 2018-19 Svenska Cupen. In 2018 he then helped gain promotion to Division 2 of Swedish football.
Schneider returned to Madison in 2019 joining Forward Madison for their inaugural season, making him the first Madison native to join the team. He debuted for the club on April 13, 2019.
In 2021 he joined Michigan Stars FC, who play in NISA.
