Former Texas High School Gatorade Player of the Year joins the Flamingos
MADISON, WI: Forward Madison FC has signed 25-year-old Isidro Martinez, pending league and federation approval. The 2015 Texas Gatorade Player of the Year joins the Flamingos for the 2023 season.
Martinez was born in Brownsville, Texas, where he attended Simon Rivera High School. His senior season, he led the soccer team to a 28-0-0 record, winning the 6A Texas State Championship. In the championship match, Martinez scored a goal en route to a 2-1 win.
After graduating from high school, Martinez attended the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where he would excel, making 70 appearances, scoring 9 goals, and tallying 13 assists. He was picked up by USL Development Side (at the time) South Georgia Tormenta in 2018, where he would make 12 appearances.
Following 2018, Martinez was a mainstay in USL Championship side Rio Grande Valley FC, making 48 appearances from 2019-2020 before a one year stint with New Mexico United, where he made 30 appearances. In 2022, Martinez went back to Rio Grande, where he appeared in the club’s USL Championship playoff match.
“Isidro’s quality has shown in all levels that he’s played at in his career,” Head Coach Matt Glaeser said. “We’re looking forward to seeing the impact he can have in Madison this season.”
