Coaches and USL League One 2023 Records:
Forward Madison FC (8-5-6)
Head Coach: Matt Glaeser
Richmond Kickers (6-6-8)
Head Coach: Darren Sawatzki
Key Players to Watch:
Isidro Martinez: As the team’s leader in chances created, Martinez will be a crucial part in stringing together the Forward Madison offense on Saturday. Look for him to pick apart Richmond’s defense with intricate through balls and passes over the top to get his squad on the board.
Stephen Payne: The last time Forward Madison played Richmond Kickers, Payne scored the lone goal in the 78th minute. With his speed and quick feet on the right side, he will be a force to be reckoned with on Saturday.
Bernd Schipmann: The past week was a rare misstep from Forward Madison, as they conceded five goals in the last two games. Look for the Flamingos’ keeper get back on track this weekend.
Key Match Up:
Terzaghi vs. FMFC Backline: As mentioned before, the Forward Madison defense has had a tough past couple of matches. Richmond Kickers striker Emiliano Terzaghi has nine goals in 19 appearances during the 2023 season thus far, clearly capable of breaking down defensive shapes. Saturday’s match-up will be a true testament as to whether or not the FMFC backline can withstand high-attacking pressure and keep their shape under duress.
Keys to the Match:
- Keep the Foot on the Gas: Forward has jumped to early leads in each of their past two matches, but were unable to win either match. Look for the squad to try and grab an early goal in Richmond, but then respond by keeping the pressure up and score a second.
- Focus on the Controllable: Every soccer match is bound to have unpredictable events happen during the 90 minutes. If Forward Madison can stay composed, focus on the game plan, and continue to play attacking soccer, they will be a tough team to beat heading into the playoff season.
Previous and Next Match:The Flamingos come into this match after a 1-1 draw against Greenville Triumph SC. Next up, Forward Madison FC comes back to Madison for a quick home streak to play against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Wednesday, August 9th at 7pm CT. Tickets can be purchased here.
